"Restructuring in a Downturn"

As the recession takes its toll, many companies are undertaking major restructurings -- cutting workers, shedding some businesses and investing in others. While some firms are ditching assets to survive, stronger companies are buying. Either way, managers have some tough calls to make, says Gerry Hansell, head of Boston Consulting Group's Corporate Development practice in the Americas.

Mr. Hansell recently explained when and how companies should restructure.
